Anti-Semite Emerges from Illinois Swamp

A congressional candidate running as a Republican in the upcoming Illinois primary says the “Holocaust never happened.”

Arthur Jones, 64, a Lyons, IL, insurance salesman who organizes family-friendly, neo-Nazi events around Adolph Hitler’s birthday, hopes to be the Republican candidate chosen to run againstDemocratic Congressman Dan Lipinski in Illinois’ 3rd Congressional District.

“As far as I’m concerned, the Holocaust is nothing more than an international extortion racket by the Jews,” Jones said. “It’s the blackest lie in history. Millions of dollars are being made by Jews telling this tale of woe and misfortune in books, movies, plays and TV. (Full Story)

A Most Dangerous Man

As a society, we have invested billions in medical research to alleviate or prevent the chromosomal anomalies responsible for the premature deaths or physical impairment of countless citizens.

“The American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists (ACOG) currently recommends screening all pregnancies for fetal chromosomal anomalies, including Down syndrome.”

GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum would have us ignore the advances made in genetic screening and return to a darker time. Santorum has made a number of shocking statements on critical health and social issues. None more troubling than his position on prenatal testing to identify chromosomal abnormalities and ameliorate their potential impact on the quality of life for those affected.

"One of the mandates (of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act) is they require free prenatal testing in every insurance policy in America. Why? Because it saves money in health care. Why? Because free prenatal testing ends up in more abortions and therefore less care that has to be done, because we cull the ranks of the disabled in our society." Santorum speaking at a Christian Alliance luncheon in Columbus.

There are several troubling issues in Santorum’s comments. Why provide free or low cost prenatal testing? Could it be to help save millions of families with little or no health care insurance the despair of not being able to provide the medical and developmental resources required to raise a Down syndrome child to an acceptable level of self-sufficiency? It’s clear that Mr. Santorum, with his generous congressional retirement and federal health care insurance, is insensitive to the anguish of parents unable to properly care for a developmentally disabled child.

Mean and median medical costs for children 0 to 4 years of age with Down syndrome were 12 to 13 times higher than for children without Down syndrome. (Research Participation Program at the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)

Medical management, home environment, education, and vocational training can significantly affect the level of functioning of children and adolescents with Down syndrome and facilitate their transition to adulthood. (American Academy of Pediatrics, Committee on Genetics)

The other troubling issue is his concern over “…. cull[ing] the ranks of the disabled in our society.” Our success in managing certain chromosomal anomalies like Down’s syndrome, both medically and developmentally, overshadows the poor prognosis for chromosomal anomalies, like anencephaly, having far more severe consequences.

Mr. Santorum wants to block government intrusion into our lives except where it involves personal freedoms like reproductive choice. Santorum could be a very dangerous man were it not for his lack of intellectual depth.

It's Easier to Hate than to Understand

American Family Assocation (AFA) is a Hate Group
In an October 2004 article, the AFA Journal suggests that gay influences are leading to a "grotesque culture" that will include "quick encounters in the middle school boys' restroom." In its 1994 booklet Homosexuality in America, the AFA claims "[p]rominent homosexual leaders and publications have voiced support for pedophilia, incest, sadomasochism, and even bestiality."

AFA's direct-mail appeals are particularly shrill. "For the sake of our children and society, we must OPPOSE the spread of homosexual activity! Just as we must oppose murder, stealing, and adultery!" says one such recent fundraising letter. "Since homosexuals cannot reproduce, the only way for them to 'breed' is to RECRUIT! And who are their targets for recruitment? Children!"

AFA has 21 state directors, including California's Scott Lively, co-author of The Pink Swastika, a book that claims "homosexuals are the true inventors of Nazism and the guiding force behind many Nazi atrocities" (Copyright Southern Poverty Law Center)

AFA Equates Gays to Nazis

The AFA's issues director, Bryan Fischer, has alleged that gays caused the Holocaust—and are planning on doing it again; that gays should be banned from holding public office; that homosexuality should be criminalized; that foreign Muslims should either be exterminated converted to Christianity or subjected to lethal force*; that American Muslims should be deported; that there should be a permanent ban on mosque construction in the United States; and that Muslims should be prohibited from serving in the armed forces. (Tim Murphy, Mother Jones Magazine)

One Million Moms Group Calls for Boycott of JC Penney

One Million Moms, an AFA front group poisoned by the same anti-gay hatred, called for a boycott of JC Penney in response to Penney’s hiring of Ellen Degeneres as their spokesperson.

Question: Why are these people so extreme in their hatred of their fellow citizens? If this is their brand of Christianity, it’s an abomination. As Above – So Below.

IUDs: Secretly Awesome

CrookedTimber.org

Having gotten music all over the blog, I am now going to cover it with human blood. Intrauterine devices, whether copper only or with a progestogen-releasing cylinder, are actually the most common form of reversible birth control in the world. Most of the users are in China, however (2/3 according to Wikipedia). In the U.S., IUDs suffered a fatal blow to their reputation when the defective Dalkon Shield was released, causing at least 7 deaths and many septic abortions. It was pulled from the market in 1974, but the damage was done; as a girl I was never even informed about IUDs as a method of birth control. (Full article)

WTF?

Profiles in Ignorance: Rep. Hoekstra, (R-Michigan)

Rep. Hoekstra would have us believe that progressive economic policies have resulted in the transfer of millions of American manufacturing jobs to Asian countries unfettered by the restrictive and costly regulations placed on American corporations. Were it not for the burdensome workplace safety, equal opportunity, environmental protection, and minimum wage laws holding back our corporations, we could compete with the Chinese in flooding our markets with cheaply-made products based on stolen American technology.

Manufacture the iPhone in the US as cheaply as China ? Sure, just house all employees in huge barracks located next to the plant where they're freed from distractions like family obligations and useless social activities.

Respond to changing market conditions as quickly as China? No problem! Our revised right-to-work laws place employees, now living in on-site company barracks, under a 24/7 obligation to report to work. No lost time commuting from home.

Planned Parenthood receives Komen apology

The nation’s preeminent breast cancer advocacy group, the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation, apologized yesterday for its decision to cut most of its financing to Planned Parenthood for breast cancer screening and said it would again make Planned Parenthood eligible for those grants.

“We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women’s lives,’’ Nancy G. Brinker, Komen’s chief executive, said in a statement on the group’s website. The statement added, “We will continue to fund existing grants, including those of Planned Parenthood, and preserve their eligibility to apply for future grants.’’ (Pam Belluck, The Boston Globe)

“Of all the forms of inequalities, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane."
