Working in Bare Feet
If I could live again - I will travel light, If I could live again - I'll try to work bare feet at the beginning of spring till the end of autumn. Jorge Luis Borges, Instants

Silence of the Lambs
"A city cemetery could
contain the coffins filled by that brief terror that we have all been so diligently
taught to shiver at and mourn over; but all France could hardly contain the
coffins filled by that older and real Terror – that unspeakable bitter and
awful Terror which none of us has been taught to see in its vastness or pity as
it deserves.”

A Deadly Mix: Guns and Excessive Testosterone
The violent statement made by this individual should place him on top of the FBI's watch list. From what pit of hell was this cretin spawned?

Profiles in Ignorance
Mike Huckabee, speaking on his Fox News show, said, “We don't have a
crime problem or a gun problem – or even a violence problem. What we have is a
sin problem. And since we ordered God out of our schools and communities, the
military and public conversations, you know, we really shouldn't act so
surprised when all hell breaks loose.”
Let Mr. Huckabee explain to the parents of the Newtown innocents that their children died as the result of our refusal to allow Huckabee's private religious belief to be the standard by which our morality and ethics are judged. The man is a simpleton and unfit for any public office.

History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance of which their civil as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purposes.Thomas Jefferson

Stars and Stripes and Suicide
More soldiers took their own lives than died in combat during 2012, new Department of Defense figures show. The Army's suicide rate has climbed by 9 percent since the military branch launched its suicide-prevention campaign in 2009.
Through November, 177 active-duty soldiers had committed suicide compared to 165 during all of 2011 and 156 in 2010. In all of 2012, 176 soldiers were killed in action -- all while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom, according to DOD.
"The church or the synagogue or the mosque, which promised redemption by serving God and country, did not prepare them [our soldiers] for the awful betrayal of this civic religion, for the capacity we all have for human atrocity, for the stories of heroism used to mask the reality of war." Chris Hedges, Collateral Damage
