Simple Sarah Says

"It's kind of like getting out there on a playground, a bunch of kids, getting ready to fight, and one of the kids saying, 'Go ahead, punch me in the face and I'm not going to retaliate. Go ahead and do what you want to with me.'” And with these words, Former Alaska Governor, and likely presidential candidate, Sarah Palin outlined her juvenile view of our strategic arms policy. Palin’s Manichean vision reflects her belief that there are no existential doubts, no ontological questions incapable of being expressed in childish metaphors or ten second sound bites. Her enthusiastic support comes primarily from an assortment of frenetic but essentially harmless conspiracy theorists, anti-taxers, birthers, and anti-vaccinationist oddballs, with a scattering of violence-prone bullies espousing every social deviancy from civil insurrection to racial segregation, that comprise today’s Tea Party movement. Sarah’s seductive delivery is purposely crafted for an audience that’s grown too lazy for thought and too fearful of honest reflection.

Sarah’s appeal to every crass, injudicious, and violent element of the American psyche may have elevated her from the mediocrity of a small-town politico to the vainglorious world of a media superstar but her conspicuous lack of intellectual curiosity coupled with the shallowness of her ideas will forever link Sarah to the amoral and selfish id of our collective consciousness.
